Being a poor or low resourced American is an experience that is supposed to shame you out of talking about it. It’s one of the reasons I story tell about being low-resourced and ‘systems involved’ family. I often bring to light the common math that every day people do to make life work, and in that - we all find voice.
I write about the experience of being on safety net programs, cause I work on expanding them both with nonprofits and politicians while also - literally depending on them when in need. I find power in telling the stories of our daily lives and the stress we endure to make ends meet as working people. Having built a career out of being a voice for systems involved families I don’t speak enough about the psychological war fare my families face. Colorado unemployment is one of these systems.
